The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has renewed SGS accreditation to operate the SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) on a worldwide basis.

SON was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria as the Standardisation and Certification Body for product and management systems assessment. Based on a Federal Government Policy (effective September 2005), to prevent the importation in to Nigeria of substandard and unsafe products, SON has implemented an offshore Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) since 2005.

SON signed a new contract for the re-engineered SONCAP with SGS on 14th November 2012; the new program introduces changes to the former process and it will come into effect as from 1st March 2013.
